With its posh location and TV-lined bar, it’s more like a slick downtown London bar than a neighborhood pub. But the menu has cozy comforts like bangers and mash.

The owners of Rooh Chicago attempted to open a British pub in Streeterville with a healthy dose of British Indian fare. The owners were surprised that locals see Monarch & Lion more as a restaurant than a sports bar, but that’s OK. The food brings elevated charm and the fish and chips are ironically coated with a batter made with IPA (Indian Pale Ale). It’s haddock for this one and they’ll serve mushy peas upon request.

Onur Okan, chef of the upcoming River North Turkish restaurant Kor, curated the new brunch menu for sibling spot Monarch & Lion. The Streeterville pub from the owners of ROOH and Bar Goa serves a full English breakfast and bangers & mash but also highlights British Indian specialties with chili cheese naan.
